Invite your Legislators to our Nigeria Briefing

Thank you all for your prayers and action over the last few years as our brothers and sisters in Nigeria have faced famine, kidnappings, destruction of churches and homes, and violence.

The situation in Nigeria deserves to be at the forefront of humanitarian and foreign aid policy-makers’ minds. The work done through the Church of the Brethren Nigeria Crisis Fund and other programs has been incredible, but as we continue this work, it is essential that we partner with more legislators, organizations and individuals who care deeply about the issue and can make a meaningful difference in policy. To bring awareness to the issue in Washington, D.C, the Office of Public Witness is organizing a congressional briefing on the crisis in Nigeria, along with the Nigeria Working Group.

The event is intended for policy makers and their staff members, to give them background knowledge on local solutions, U.S. policy, and interfaith organizing happening in regards to Nigeria.

Please urge your Representative, Senators, and their staff members to attend the briefing, which will be held on July 11th from 3:00-4:30pm in the Russell Senate Office Building, Room 188.

My name is ______ and I am a constituent from ________. I am a member of the Church of the Brethren. I am deeply concerned about the humanitarian crisis in Nigeria, where our church’s sister EYN denomination has lost about 11,000 members to violence.

There will be a congressional briefing on this issue on July 11th from 3pm-4:30pm in Russell 188, and I would like for you and your staff to attend this event.

The briefing will provide background knowledge on local solutions, U.S. policy, and interfaith organizing happening in regards to Nigeria.

As we stand with our brothers and sisters in Nigeria, it is essential that we keep the crisis at the forefront of the national discussion, and your attendance at the Nigeria briefing is very important to me. Can we count on someone from your office to attend this briefing on Nigeria?
