ACTION ALERT

Invite your legislators to our Nigeria briefing

Boko Haram violence and farmer-herder conflicts continue to pose challenges for our Nigerian brothers and sisters. Displaced people are being encouraged to return to liberated areas that may not be safe, social trust between communities has eroded, and a lack of governmental transparency has compounded problems for those living in IDP camps.

There is a great need for an improved response to these challenges from the Nigerian government, and the United States government has the ability to encourage constructive responses.

To share these concerns and policy solutions with our policymakers, the Office of Peacebuilding and Policy is coordinating a congressional briefing on Friday, April 27th from 9am-10:30am in the Rayburn House Office Building Gold Room. The event is intended for policy makers and their staff members, to give them the tools and knowledge they need to enable constructive responses to conflict in Nigeria from the Nigerian government.

Please urge your Representative, Senators, and their staff members to attend the briefing, which will be held on April 27th from 9am-10:30am in the Rayburn House Office Building Gold Room.

My name is ______ and I am a constituent from ________. I am a member of the Church of the Brethren. I am deeply concerned about the humanitarian crisis in Nigeria, where our church's sister EYN denomination has lost about 11,000 members to violence.

There will be a congressional briefing on this issue on April 27th from 9am-10:30am in the Rayburn Gold Room, and I would like for you and your staff to attend this event.

The briefing will provide information on how the U.S. government can enable the Nigerian government to constructively respond to conflict and displaced people.

As we stand with our brothers and sisters in Nigeria, it is essential that we keep the crisis at the forefront of the national discussion, and your attendance at the Nigeria briefing is very important to me. Can we count on someone from your office to attend this briefing on Nigeria?

Best,
