Church of the Brethren
Church of the Brethren's Global Mission and Service in action

"That is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us. So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”
—2 Corinthians 5:19-20

 Global Mission Prayer Guide
June 25, 2018

In the prayers for this week from Global Mission and Service Office, we lift up:

Pray for peace and stability in Nicaragua, where more than 180 people have been killed in anti-government protests since April 18. The crisis began when opposition groups demonstrated against proposed changes to Nicaragua's pension system, and these demonstrations were met with violence from pro-government gangs. The violence has continued to escalate as protests, now focused on government brutality and calling for President Daniel Ortega to resign. As they have grown, they have been met with increasingly intensified crackdowns. Human rights groups have denounced the Nicaraguan government for excessive use of force, torture, and other lethal strategies of repression. Negotiation talks have so far failed, and the government has undergone an operation to retake control of the key city of Masaya.

Dominican Republic

Pray for Global Mission workers Jason and Nicole Hoover and their children Ethan and Miriam as they travel to the United States for a period of home leave and church visits. Pray for blessings of rest and rejuvenation.

United States

Pray for the junior high workcamp hosted this week by Brooklyn (N.Y.) Church of the Brethren. The 22 participants are spending time with senior citizens in local community centers, serving food at the Salvation Army, and working for the park system. Pray for a meaningful time of worship, Bible study, and growth through service.

Pray for traveling mercies for international guests attending Annual Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio. These guests include representatives from Ekklesiyar Yan'uwa a Nigeria (EYN, the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria) and from Asociación de los Hermanos de Venezuela (the Church of the Brethren in Venezuela).
