Church of the Brethren
Church of the Brethren's Global Mission and Service in action

"That is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us. So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”
—2 Corinthians 5:19-20

 Global Mission Prayer Guide
July 18, 2018

In the prayers for this week from Global Mission and Service Office, we lift up:

Pray for stability in Haiti, which has been rocked by riots following the government’s announcement of drastic fuel price increases. The price hikes were suspended the next day, but violent protests continued, leading to at least two deaths. The unrest led to the resignation of Haiti’s prime minister and several members of the cabinet.

Pray for safety for staff of the Haiti Medical Project and partner organization Midwives for Haiti, as they travel to provide mobile clinics and training seminars. Both organizations have been affected in the past week by roadblocks and the threat of violence. Protests have lessened, but the situation remains tenuous.

Pray for sustainable, systemic solutions to the widespread and ongoing poverty faced by the majority of Haitian citizens. Pray that the Haitian government and international community work against corruption and address past mistakes, such as the deadly cholera epidemic brought to Haiti by United Nations peacekeepers in 2010.

United States

Pray for international guests as they travel to attend National Youth Conference in Fort Collins, Colo. Youth participants will represent the Churches of the Brethren in Brazil, India, and Spain. Pray for traveling mercies and an engaging experience to strengthen the ties of our global Brethren family.

Unfortunately, youth from partner churches in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Nigeria were denied visas and are not able to attend the conference.
