Church of the Brethren
Church of the Brethren's Global Mission and Service in action

"That is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us. So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”
—2 Corinthians 5:19-20

 Global Mission Prayer Guide
August 2, 2018

In the prayers for this week from Global Mission and Service Office, we lift up:

United States

Pray for the team of Children's Disaster Services (CDS) volunteers caring for immigrant families this week at a Catholic Charities Humanitarian Respite Center in McAllen, Texas. In their first two days of service, the team cared for 150 children. Pray that the children and their families may find relief from their physical and emotional trauma.

Pray for the families of the 91 people killed by fast-moving wildfires in and around the seaside town of Mati last week. Some were killed by flames; others drowned when trying to escape to the sea. Pray for those injured and those who have lost homes or livelihood.

Pray for the victims of a series of coordinated suicide attacks that struck the southwestern city of Suweida last week, killing at least 215 people. Monitoring groups also report that militants stormed homes in the villages and killed the occupants. The Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Pray for strength for the injured. Pray for comfort for the mourning. Pray for peace in this country besieged by seven years of war.
