Church of the Brethren
Church of the Brethren's Global Mission and Service in action

"That is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us. So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”
—2 Corinthians 5:19-20

Global Mission Prayer Guide
August 7, 2018

In the prayers for this week from Global Mission and Service Office, we lift up:

Pray for the annual conference of Eglise des Freres d'Haiti, the Church of the Brethren in Haiti. Haitian Brethren will meet August 12-15 at the ministry center in Croix-des-Bouquets for business, worship, and fellowship. Pray for traveling mercies, for wisdom in discernment, and for a time of joy and renewal.

Pray for people on the Indonesian island of Lombok, which was hit by two earthquakes within a week. A 6.4-magnitude quake on July 29 killed at least 16 people and damaged hundreds of houses. On August 5, a 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck the island, killing at least 105, with the number expected to rise. More than 20,000 people lost their homes.

Pray for relief for the injured. Pray for solace for the grieving. Pray for provision for the homeless and hungry.

Dominican Republic

Pray for Global Mission workers Jason and Nicole Hoover and their children Ethan and Miriam as they return to the Dominican Republic following a time of home leave. As the Hoovers continue their service with Iglesia de los Hermanos, the Dominican Church of the Brethren, they lift up the following needs for prayer for their family: Ethan and Miriam's transition to a Dominican school; Jason's role in the church's agricultural, water, and community development projects; and Nicole’s work with the church's student scholarship program.

Pray for leadership development and unity for the members and pastors of Iglesia de los Hermanos.
