Church of the Brethren
Church of the Brethren's Global Mission and Service in action

"That is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us. So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”
—2 Corinthians 5:19-20

 Global Mission Prayer Guide
January 10, 2018

In the prayers for this week from Global Mission and Service Office, we lift up:

Pray for a workcamp run by Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria (EYN, Church of the Brethren in Nigeria), working on church rebuilding over the next two weeks. Six Church of the Brethren members are participating in the construction work as well as visiting EYN congregations and programs. Pray for safety and Spirit-filled encounters.

Give thanks for a new technology classroom building in Jos, which is enabling a new educational partnership between EYN and Bethany Theological Seminary. A January 8 ceremony dedicated the building that was financially sponsored by Church of the Brethren members. Through Zoom technology, cameras, and monitors, six EYN students are taking a course in real time along with Bethany students and instructors in Richmond, Ind.

Praise God for the rescue of Salomi Pogu, one of 276 girls and young women abducted from their school in Chibok in April 2014! Pray for the physical, emotional, and spiritual recovery of Salomi as well as that of the 14-year-old girl who was discovered with her. Pray that they may be reunited with their familes and re-welcomed into their communities. Pray for the Chibok girls and other victims who remain in captivity.

South Sudan

Praise God for the successful delivery of a vehicle to the Brethren Peace Center in Torit, South Sudan! The vehicle was sponsored by Church of the Brethren donors and the Emergency Disaster Fund. It will greatly enhance Global Mission worker Athanasus Ungang's ministry and enable him to better provide food and supply assistance to displaced persons.

United States

Pray for the staff and volunteers of the Office of Public Witness as they embark on strategic planning for the next year and as they discern ways to expand their work in South Sudan and continue engagement with Nigeria and other international partners.
