Brethren World Assembly - 300th Anniversary by Glenn Riegel

The Anniversary celebration was held on the banks of the Eder River in the small village of Schwarzenau, in central Germany. In 1708, the first eight Brethren were baptized in the Eder under the leadership of Alexander Mack, Sr. On Aug. 2-3, 2008, hundreds of their faith descendants from around the world gathered at the Eder to commemorate 300 years of the Brethren movement. The two-day celebration was planned and sponsored by the board of the Brethren Encyclopedia, Inc., along with a Schwarzenau Committee of local residents.
