Markers in a trial field of rice varieties

White markers help identify different varieties of rice in a trial field in North Korea. The farms supported by the Church of the Brethren's Global Food Crisis Fund have been pioneers in demonstrating such practices as double-cropping and the interplanting of crops. These white-painted markers indicate where varieties of seed are being tested for the best yield. Photo by Dr. Pilju Kim Joo
