A quilt appliqued in China in the 1930s

This bed quilt and an accompanying quilted runner have sparked fascinating research into a Brethren mission program for women in China in the 1930s. The program helped raise money for women and their families through handcrafts, and was run by Church of the Brethren mission worker Minnie Bright. The quilt top was sewn and appliqued by Chinese women associated with the Brethren mission point at Ping Ting. This quilt top was sent to the United States, where it ended up among other possessions in the trunk of Marjorie Morse Kauffman's grandmother.
